Electric Theatre to Light Guildford with community lantern parade this November Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund and ACM – The Academy of Contemporary Music, the parade will bring music and willow lanterns to the town centre on November 30th with a very special performance at 4pm from the I Speak Music orchestra.
Jennie Surmeli from The Electric Theatre/ACM says “workshops with artists have taken place at schools, the Tunsgate centre, Waterstones, the library and the Electric Theatre as well as with community groups and charities across Guildford– we can’t wait for everyone to join us on the
parade, to really light up the streets of Guildford with these beautiful creations”
The ‘I Speak Music Community Orchestra’ will be getting the event started at 4pm with a live performance, the orchestra is designed to celebrate the diversity of Surrey’s communities and is led by some of the UKs most experienced music facilitators, supported by Arts Council England and Surrey Arts.
Lantern workshops will take place throughout November and local people are encouraged to make a willow and tissue paper lantern with artists and join the parade, which will feature ACM’s in-house Samba band , food and craft stalls “This is a great opportunity for our students to bring music to the
community, to share a stage with the I speak music orchestra and share in a very special evening” says Toby Drummond, ACM’s music tutor leading the band.
The event starts at 4.00pm with live music and the parade leaves The Electric Theatre at 4.30pm on Saturday 30th November, with music continuing after the parade.
